The City of Rector recently received an Outdoor Recreation Grant from the Arkansas Dept. of Parks and Tourism for the construction of a new restroom facility at Memorial Park. Plans have been developed by architect Ken Stacks of Jonesboro for the new facility. It has been designed to be relatively maintenance-free and vandalism-proof. It also meets seismic requirements, since this community is in an earthquake zone. All members of the community were invited last year to attend a public meeting to provide their input on needs of the parks and recreation department. The overwhelming opinion at that meeting was the need for a new restroom to replace the outdated facility that had been used for years. The new restroom will be used every day at the park, with particular applicability to the youth baseball and softball games and tournaments that attract visitors from all over the region. It will, of course, also be a welcome addition for the large Labor Day Picnic crowd each September. A contractor has been retained for the project and it is anticipated that it will be constructed in time for the 2008 Labor Day Picnic. |
