Rector Community Center

Built in 1992, the community center quickly lived up to its name, becoming the central gathering place for a number of community and private events. It is a common meeting place for clubs and reunions, parties and political events.

It is the City’s polling location and the site of periodic Red Cross blood drives. In the bad ice storm of 2009, it became a staging area and temporary shelter for citizens without heat and power. Volunteers served more than 1000 free meals a day.

The facility, features a large multi-purpose room with stage, concert lighting, sound system and dressing rooms. It also offers a dining room with commercial kitchen, a meeting room and office area.

Concerts, dinners, plays and reunions have become common and recurring events at the center. It is the home of the following annual events: “The Night of Chocolate” presented by the Clay County Arts Council, “The Ultimate Oldies” concert, the Chamber of Commerce Banquet, the Community Christmas Reception, the Community Chili Cook-off, Giant Puppet Shows, and the semi-annual Arts &n Crafts Fair.
